Gradient/Ombre Lips

Today I wanted to try something new with my lipstick: Gradient lips! I love the look of gradient lips because it looks so fresh and cute. This was a trend started in South Korea and is part of the whole ‘Ulzzang’ trend and is very popular there. It’s only become a trend over here recently and I haven’t seen much of it lately because of the dark hues being worn during the winter. The purpose of the gradient lips is the opposite of a vampy, red lip; it’s more on the innocent side and makes your makeup and your face look more youthful and fresher. So to do the gradient lips, you need two colors that are in the same family, one should be lighter and the other should be darker/deeper than the other. The lighter color should go on the outer part of your lips and the brighter color should go on the inner part of your lips. Image                                                               I used these two lipsticks: Cozy Up and Purty Persimmon

As you can see Purty Persimmon is a really bright orange red color and Cozy Up is a pretty nude color that’s sort of coral-ish when you put it on.

Here’s my attempt at the gradient lips.

It’s kind of hard to see the gradation on camera but in real life it looks a lot more vivid.

It really looks pretty and summery and kind of like you were sucking on a popsicle or lollipop LOL. I’d definitely try to wear this more in the spring and summertime because it’s perfect for warm, beach weather. This kind of gradient lip is the type that looks good with any lip shape and flatters most makeup looks; especially young, fresh-faced natural makeup.

Nails and Lips

ImageHad a great day out in the city today and discovered this amazing nail polish and these lip sticks!

Nails: Illamasqua – Cameo

Super gorgeous cornflower blue that reminds me of an ocean. Love it for summer.

Lips: Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bang topped off with Stila’s Stay all Day Liquid Lipstick in Carina.

I am in love with these two lipsticks; they’re similar colors but the Stila is more of a matte lip stain. Both are super pigmented and they’re bold and bright, which add a pop of color to your outfit/face/skin? 😀 The point is: Bang and Carina are amazing.

Summer Lip Favorites

IMG_2226Everyone has their favorite lip products that they use during the summer and these are currently my favorites for this summer. For starters, because the sun is very harmful to the skin during the summer you should always use a SPF lip balm before applying lipstick or lip gloss. It will prevent your lips from burning and getting a really bad sun burn, which doesn’t fade ever (trust me I know). I really like The Body Shop’s Vitamin E lip balm because it’s hydrating and it smells good.

Here are the products swatched on my arm

And here’s what Cozy Up looks like on maccozyup

I’ve taken a liking to MAC’s Cozy Up ever since I saw how well it looked against my skin. I know I made a post before talking about how I didn’t really like how it showed up against my skin but alas, I have changed my mind. It’s pretty peachy and looks perfect for a day out to the beach or just a day out in general. I like how it stays on for a really long time and it’s pretty pigmented as well.

Maybelline Baby Lips is great for when you want a light tint on your lips and when you want to hydrate your lips but don’t want to apply a heavier balm. It can be layered on top of a lipstick to give a finishing touch or worn under one to give a little boost.

Wet n Wild Pinkerbell was my ultimate obsession in the spring and early summer. Not only is this lipstick SUPER pigmented but it lasts forever because you barely need one swipe to get a nice swatch of color on your lip. I think Wet n Wild lipsticks are really underrated because they really deliver for a price that’s a fraction of a high end lipstick.

And these are my favorite lip products for the summer! Thanks for reading 🙂

MAC Lipsticks Review/Swatches

ImageToday I’m going to give my two cents on these two lipsticks right here. MAC is home to an amazing collection of lipsticks and cosmetics. Among these are the two shades featured in this post, which are Russian Red and Cozy Up. Both are complete opposite shades as one is a bold red whilst the other is a subtle nude peachy color.

These are the shades swatched out on my arm.

Now Russian Red is something serious; it leaves quite the stain even after most of the lipstick has rubbed off. It’s something you would want to wear if you’re going to be out all night partying. Cozy Up, on my skin, is very nude almost to the point of blending into my natural skin tone. Therefore, I don’t think this is the right shade of nude for me. However, if I layer a gloss over it, the color shows up better.

Wet n Wild Mega Last Lip Color Review

This product is what I would call an incredible find. Why? Because you get such a quality product for a price that would be considered a steal. I first saw this product on Youtube, a beauty guru used it in her 20 dollar makeup challenge, and the color was so brilliant and pigmented that I just had to pick it up.

What the Wet n Wild website claims about this lipstick, “This 4-hour, longwearing lip color leaves a semi-matte, crème finish in one stroke. Glides on easily with rich, velvety color that doesn’t cake, feather, or bleed. Made with hydrating skin-care ingredients: Hyaluronic Microspheres provide extraordinary adhesion to lips, an exclusive polymer complex offers cushion-like feel and texture, and natural marine plant extracts Coenzyme Q10 and Vitamins A & E help smooth lips.”

Well damn. LOL. With one swipe you get an incredible matte pigmented color on your lips. And it stays on forever, 4 hours?  If you wear it with the right lip balm it will stay on for much longer, of course the pigmentation would fade but it would leave a really nice stain on your lips. I really love this color, it’s called Smokin’ Hot Pink, so of course it’s a hot pink that just looks so good with my complexion. I seriously love this lipstick, not only is it ridiculously cheap but the color is great! I personally am not a fan of creamy lipsticks because even though my lips feel moisturized, the color fades way too fast. Which is why I prefer matte lipsticks like these. Wet N Wild offers this lipstick in about 26 different colors, so there’s got to be a shade for everyone. 🙂
