NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream

Hello everyone! I’ve been pretty MIA these past few months and that’s solely due to my own procrastination and laziness LOL. So I’m back with a review about my absolute favourite lip product, the soft matte lip cream by NYX. I’ve seen and heard a million things about them but I only managed to pick one up from Target this summer. And needless to say, I fell in love with it.

photo (2)I got it in the color Antwerp which is this kind of fuchsia pink but doesn’t look like it online. I find that all of the colors are a bit off online when it comes to these lip products so it’s best to check them out in store. Here’s a swatch of what it looks like:
photo (5) I really love the color and consistency of this lip cream. It’s very pigmented in my opinion and the staying power is AMAZING. It dries to a matte stain and doesn’t come off for hours. I’ve seriously fallen asleep with this on and woke up with it still on my lips. It’s easy to apply and as long as your lips aren’t dry or cracked, it will look very smooth and natural. You can make the color more vibrant by layering it but if you want a natural look, one swipe is enough. They also come in a variety of colors so my next pick will be something with a bit of orange in it.

One thing about it though is that it finishes pretty quickly. Well, that may be due to the fact that I’ve used only this product on my lips for the entire summer LOL. But I wasn’t expecting it to finish so quickly and kind of look a little dry in the tube. However, since it’s only $5.99 at Target, it’s affordable to keep replenishing when you run out. I’ve also heard things about the NYX Butter Gloss so I might check that out when I’m at Target again.

Clinique Moisture Surge Review

Hello all! Today I’ll be reviewing the Clinique Moisture Surge moisturizer that I’ve been using for quite a while now. I’m finally done with finals and the semester so now I’m just ready to kick-start summer! Anyways, back to the main point, this moisturizer is intended to be a light moisturizer that’s not too heavy or sticky. It is gel based and has a gel like consistency but sort of  little bit thicker. It is hydrating enough for use during the spring and summer and when the weather is really humid and hot. However, if you have dry skin or combo skin I wouldn’t suggest using this moisturizer. I have oily skin but even so I have my dry skin phases and I’ve used  this moisturizer when my skin has reacted really terribly to the change in weather. That being said, this moisturizer alone will not do it if you have dry patches or have dry skin in general. It is best when layered with a serum or essence. Image

Here’s what it looks like on my hand

And here’s a swatch

A lot of people have said that this moisturizer soothes redness and inflamed skin and from my personal experience, it doesn’t really do exactly that. Maybe it does if you really pack it on but I find that a little bit goes a long way to cover my face. In my opinion, it’s a basic hydrating moisturizer best suited for those with combo/oily skin and definitely not something that’s to be used alone. I like this moisturizer but I haven’t seen any extremely drastic changes to my skin when using it.

The newest addition to my fragrance collection

Oh yes, La Vie est Belle by Lancome, how amazing you smell. I’ve been wanting this fragrance for ages since I’ve smelled it in Sephora and I finally got it!

Words cannot describe how amazing this perfume smells. It’s very sophisticated and in my opinion, can be a winter and a summer scent because it has that note of patchouli which is warm. It’s very strong so only a spritz or two will do and last for the rest of the day. And if you spray it on your hair? It will last for days between washes. It’s main notes are Iris, Patchouli and Gourmand and together they smell heavenly. This is the perfume that gets compliments and stares from people who are wondering what you’re wearing (believe me, it’s happened). It is pretty pricey but you only need about 2 sprays everyday so it will last for a few months at least.

Products I’m currently trying!

I got these two samples in a Clinique beauty bag that came as a free gift when you ordered more than x-dollars from Clinique or something and these were included in the cosmetic bag. I’ve heard a lot about the Clinique Moisture Surge and I just so happened to have run out of my Josie Maran Argan Oil, so I decided to start using this instead. So far I’ve been really liking it, as well as the Repairwear Laser Focus serum, which I use at night. The Moisture Surge, though it’s a gel-like consistency, is very hydrating and thicker than most gels and doesn’t leave my skin feelings parched. I haven’t seen much of a difference from using the Repairwear Laser Focus, so I will have to keep using it and get back to you guys on that.

I picked these makeup remover wipes while standing in line at Forever21 and decided to give them a try. Now I didn’t expect amazing things from these wipes, but they were $2.80 and so I thought “why not?” They’ve been pretty good at getting my makeup off and they’re extremely gentle on my sensitive skin. Usually makeup wipes leave my skin burning, which is why I never used them. But these seem to work for my skin and so I’m glad.

I will try to do a more in-depth review of these products if I end up really loving them and if you guys want reviews on them, I will of course do my best to review them 🙂

Back to school essentials!

IMG_2544Since it’s back to school season (I start next week D: ) I thought I’d do a back to school post about things you’ll need or want for when you go back to school. I tried to cater a bit to high-school/college age students but of course some things apply more to college students since some high schools have strict dress codes.

1. This is my all time favorite blemish fighting product, Etude House’s AC Clinic Red Spot Balm and their AC Clinic cleanser. I had bought this a while ago with hopes that it would help clear up my breakouts and it did!

2. For school, a heavy un-natural eye makeup look is a no-no. It looks too overdone and try-hard. That’s why a nice neutral palette is perfect for adding some definition to your eyes. This is Clinique’s Color Surge Eyeshadow Duo with a blush as well.

3. For girls on a budget this is Clean and Clear’s Dual Action Moisturizer which helps fight against breakouts and moisturizes.

4. Of course who can’t go without deodorant! This is a must for everyone, everyday.

5. This is Clinique’s Cream Blush, it’s a cream blush with wonderful pigment that could also double up as a natural lip color.

6. This is The Body Shop’s Soothing Aloe Day cream, it’s pricier than Clean and Clear’s but it really helps to calm redness and inflammation in my skin.

7. My BB Cream is a must everyday. I don’t ever use foundation so this BB cream is the way to go. It’s Etude House’s Precious Mineral Bright Fit BB Cream. I did a review on it a while ago and it’s nothing short of amazing!

8. A compact rollerball keeps you smelling fresh and clean all day long, since it’s a rollerball it’s easy to reapply throughout the day. I love my Jimmy Choo rollerball fragrance 🙂

9. Another eyeshadow duo by Clinique also features natural colors that are appropriate for school and not the club.

10. Maybelline’s Baby Lips not only smells nice but gives you a nice pink tint as well as hydration, if you’re in the rush or can’t wear lipstick to school.

11. Another one of my favorites is MAC’s Cozy Up, which is a nice nude/coral color and doesn’t look dramatic for school.

12. What girl can’t go without eyeliner? Usually schools are lax when it comes to wearing eyeliner so this is one thing you can probably get away with if you go to a strict high school. This is Sephora’s Kohl Eyeliner in Smoky Gray.

Image Here’s a closeup shot of the eyeshadow palettes and the cream blush. Notice how they all seem to be in the same color range 😀 ImageI went shopping in Soho yesterday and of course I had to go visit this really popular, trendy clothing store that I really like. And I got this pair of of shorts which have a little flounce at the sides that look super cute. I also got a new pair of oxfords because my previous ones have been to hell and back, and I needed some new ones. So happy with my purchase! mujiI also visited Muji to pick up by go-to school books where I take all of my notes in. For those of you who don’t know what Muji is, it’s a Japanese chain store that sells everything from school supplies to storage to clothes to skincare, all under their own brand name. They’re super minimalistic, which is one of their charms, and on the higher end of the price range. Their notebooks are amazing because they’re light (which is GREAT) and compact.

I love having a colorful manicure on my nails because not only is it eyecatching but also it looks so fun! The nail polishes are Ciate’s – Skinny Jean and Illamasqua – Venous.
Image And of course these are essential for school! It’s imperative to have your course syllabi printed out, your schedule (of course), your calculator, clicker and your iPad (because who still carries a heavy laptop around?).

MIZON Snail Recovery Gel Cream

Today I wanna talk about snail cream. Yes, I know some of you may cringe at those words because it has the word ‘snail’ in it and snails are…slimy. But this is one of the latest and most popular beauty trends nowadays and a lot of people are saying great things about it. So snail cream is a cream or gel made out of snail filtrate, which is a mucus-like substance produced by snails when they need to repair tissue damage. It is a filtrate which means it is put through a filter so no harmful bacteria/anything that can harm human skin is left in the finished product. So technically it’s not really snail slime, it’s much cleaner and healthier. Snails are incredibly good at repairing damaged tissues and regenerating new ones so some genius person decided to test the effects of snail filtrate on human skin. And the results spoke for themselves. Huge cosmetic companies decided to jump on this snail cream bandwagon and one of them is MIZON, which sells the highly popular Snail Recovery Gel and Snail Recovery Cream. So I jumped online and ordered my tube because I was really excited to try this new trend out. Image

At first I was a bit hesitant about being broken out by the snail cream but decided to eff it and apply this onto my face as part of my nighttime routine. It is a gel texture but it moisturizes adequately and finishes matte. A little bit goes a very long way, I barely need a pea size amount to pat into my face. This is great because it’s not like the tube is really large so you get the best value for your money. Image

Even though it’s a gel, it’s not extremely liquid-y and runnyImage

Here is the gel swatched on my hand.Image

When rubbed into the skin.

It covered my entire hand and even part of my wrist and still there was a bit left, so I had to rub it in to get rid of the residue. This gel leaves your skin feeling very matte and almost like you put a primer on your face, as weird as that sounds. It doesn’t feel like a silky, velvety primer but a primer nonetheless. I usually use this as part of my nighttime routine but I decided to try it under my BB cream one day and was totally surprised at how matte my face looked after applying my BB cream. Usually BB creams have a dewy finish but this kept my face looking matte and shine-free.

So what does it do for the skin? Well it’s ‘certified wrinkle-care’ by the KFDA so I guess it helps take care of wrinkles and fine lines (I don’t have any so I can’t comment on that property). It contains 74% snail filtrate which is a hell of a lot for a skincare product considering most skincare products like to put less concentrations of their main ingredient. The snail filtrate helps to heal skin, calm redness and inflammation, promote collagen production and help the skin regenerate itself. This means it basically is a God-send for your skin. It literally does everything and more.

My experience with it is that it’s definitely made my complexion brighter and helped to control the shine I get from having such oily skin. I do see an improvement in my skin’s texture and pore-size and it has helped heal my skin (especially after breakouts) and in general my skin is just brighter and more even-toned.  It’s very lightweight so I recommend it for people with oily/combo skin, but it’s also hydrating so that even people with normal-dry skin types can use it. It has no scent, even though I was expecting it to have one, so anyone who hates scented skincare products will definitely like this.

I really, really love this gel cream. For me, I feel like it’s just what I’ve been looking for. My sensitive skin doesn’t react to it and it improves my skin’s health overall.

– Good for sensitive skin

– Controls excess shine and mattifies

– Moisturizes and hydrates

– A little bit goes a long way

– Inexpensive

– Makes skin brighter and actually helps to regenerate it

– Didn’t break me out!

– Non scented

Etude House Dear Girls Be Clear Moisturizer

ImageSo one of the skincare items I recently purchased was this moisturizer by Etude House. Now why this moisturizer when there are tons of other moisturizers out there, even by Etude House itself? Well, since it’s summer and extra hot and sunny in NYC (we’re now coming out of a week long heat wave) I need some extra SPF protection on my face that would not break me out. My BB Cream does contain SPF 30 but of course that wouldn’t stand up against the blazing, hot sun outside. This moisturizer luckily contains SPF 30 which is exactly what I need. Now on the packaging it says ‘whitening’ but I assure you, it doesn’t actually whiten the skin. What it does is leave a very white cast on your face.

Image It comes out as a thin, milky liquid which made me dubious about it’s sun protection claims. However after applying it, I could see that it really applied onto the skin. Image                                           Here it is swatched onto my hand.

ImageAndddddd the finish.

Would you look at that! On one side of my hand I rubbed in the moisturizer and I left the other side completely bare. I’m sure the difference is blatant enough for me not to point it out, but well, I have to. It totally turned part of my hand into a different skin color. It actually made the right side look very pink toned when in reality my skin is yellow-toned. At first the contrast was startling, especially when applied onto my face. However, since I was going to apply BB cream on top of it and then powder, everything worked out fine. But I would not recommend wearing this by itself or even at home around others unless you want to look like a ghost. I understand the finish might be less noticeable if you reallllly rub it in and stuff but uh…who has time for that when the rest of your makeup routine is awaiting?

So overall, I like this moisturizer but I only wear it when I’m going out for the day and I’m going to be wearing makeup over it. Otherwise, this would not be my daily moisturizer if I didn’t have to go out everyday.

Summer Lip Favorites

IMG_2226Everyone has their favorite lip products that they use during the summer and these are currently my favorites for this summer. For starters, because the sun is very harmful to the skin during the summer you should always use a SPF lip balm before applying lipstick or lip gloss. It will prevent your lips from burning and getting a really bad sun burn, which doesn’t fade ever (trust me I know). I really like The Body Shop’s Vitamin E lip balm because it’s hydrating and it smells good.

Here are the products swatched on my arm

And here’s what Cozy Up looks like on maccozyup

I’ve taken a liking to MAC’s Cozy Up ever since I saw how well it looked against my skin. I know I made a post before talking about how I didn’t really like how it showed up against my skin but alas, I have changed my mind. It’s pretty peachy and looks perfect for a day out to the beach or just a day out in general. I like how it stays on for a really long time and it’s pretty pigmented as well.

Maybelline Baby Lips is great for when you want a light tint on your lips and when you want to hydrate your lips but don’t want to apply a heavier balm. It can be layered on top of a lipstick to give a finishing touch or worn under one to give a little boost.

Wet n Wild Pinkerbell was my ultimate obsession in the spring and early summer. Not only is this lipstick SUPER pigmented but it lasts forever because you barely need one swipe to get a nice swatch of color on your lip. I think Wet n Wild lipsticks are really underrated because they really deliver for a price that’s a fraction of a high end lipstick.

And these are my favorite lip products for the summer! Thanks for reading 🙂

The Body Shop: Mineral Powder Blotting Papers

ImageImageBlotting papers are a life-saver for an oily-skinned person like me. Two hours after cleansing and applying makeup, my face would start to look very, very ‘dewy’. Given a couple more hours, I have an oil slick going on. LOL it sounds gross to describe but it is what it is. That’s why I always carry a pack of blotting sheets with me where-ever I go. I really like the Clean and Clear oil blotting sheet because they’re superb at getting all the oil off, but even though it says it doesn’t smudge makeup, when I look at the paper after blotting…lo and behold there’s makeup on it. Welp. Can’t expect it to stay on forever.

But these Body Shop Mineral Powder blotting papers have something that the Clean and Clear sheets don’t. Each sheet has actual mineral powder on them so when you blot, the powder absorbs the oil and you get a nice touch-up. They’re great for when you need to mattify your face in a jiffy and won’t have time to retouch the rest of your makeup. However sometimes the powder transferred onto your face looks a bit uneven so you would have to take care of that. Unless you want to be walking around with weird patches of powder on your face. But, I do think that it’s all in the way you blot it on your face, so it is preventable. The sheets also have a powdery scent…and it’s not that nice baby powder scent. It smells like makeup, more precisely like mineral powder, so that might be a turn-off for people who are sensitive to smells.

Overall I’d give these sheets a 4/5.
